On the August 30th episode of SBS’s ‘Strong Heart‘, Super Junior’s leader Leeteuk revealed the hidden stories behind Super Junior’s debut.
When the younger members of the group, Kyuhyun and Ryeowook, revealed that Leeteuk treated a little less than kindly when they first joined the group, Leeteuk responded to their stories by saying, “If the members were uncomfortable with each other, we wouldn’t be able to talk about these sensitive stories. There is also a reason I was a bit harsh towards Kyuhyun and Ryeowook.”
Leeteuk revealed, “When we first debuted, Super Junior was actually a project group. We were to promote our group for exactly 3 months and then disband. It was a new marketing idea, in which the group would serve as a gateway to rookie debuts, and that the members would continuously rotate out of the group to follow their own paths.”
He continued, “When we debuted in 2005, ‘Super Junior 05′ was written on our album, which meant that we were to promote only during the year 2005. Thinking of how I had spent the last 7 years as a trainee, I performed on every stage as if it were my last.”
But all the hard work the members of Super Junior put into the group finally paid off, and with Kyuhyun joining as the final member, Super Junior was able to become an official group.
We couldn’t imagine what K-Pop would be like without these powerful leaders of the Hallyu wave, could you?

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun reveals stories of his hardships during his early debut days
On the August 30th episode of SBS’s ‘Strong Heart‘, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun shared stories from his early days as a member of Super Junior.
Kyuhyun began, “I wasn’t a trainee for very long. I had trained for about 2 months when I became a member of Super Junior.”
He explained that when he joined the group, Super Junior was a rookie group who had debuted only 6 months ago, and already had 12 members. It was hard enough to receive adequate screen time when there were 12 members, so Kyuhyun had feared that the members would dislike him for joining the group.
He continued, “On my second day at the agency, I ran into the Super Junior members, who were said to be so busy that people were seldom able to catch a glimpse of them. I was so nervous that I just slightly nodded my head and said ‘Hello’, but Leeteuk-hyung coldly replied, ‘Excuse me, but that’s not how you greet someone’. Of course, at the time I had made a mistake, but the members seemed to dislike me from the beginning.”
Kyuhyun shocked the cast members when he added, “When I joined Super Junior and moved into the dorm, all the members each had their own bed except for me. They told me just to sleep anywhere, so I ended up sleeping in a sleeping bag next to Yesung’s bed for a month, between Donghae and Sungmin’s beds for a month, and so on for about 9 months.”
Kyuhyun also shared a story of how Leeteuk had told him to cook some ramen for the members, but since he had to prepare enough ramen for 13 people, he accidentally used too much water. Seeing this, Leeteuk had angrily scolded Kyuhyun while throwing his chopsticks aside.
Ryeowook later recalled an episode involving Kyuhyun and said, “We have a rule saying that you cannot be drunk inside the dorm, but one day Kyuhyun consumed an entire bottle of soju before returning back home. He then came to lie down on my bed and said, ‘Ryeowook, I’m so tired,’ while shedding tears.”
He continued, “I was also going through a tough time, so I asked him, ‘Why? Because of who? I think I’ll be able to understand you,’ to which Kyuhyun replied, ‘Leeteuk-hyung…’, and then drifted off to sleep.”
However, despite the obstacles he had to face in his earlier Super Junior days, Kyuhyun expressed the high level of respect and love he now holds for his group’s leader. When Super Junior won their first award, all the members shed tears of joy, but Kyuhyun forced himself to hold back his tears, thinking that he had no right to cry for this achievement.
He stated, “The members continued to cry once we returned to the waiting room, and I truly wanted to cry along with them.” But once Leeteuk looked up to see Kyuhyun standing awkwardly amongst the other members, he came over to give him a warm embrace and said, “You worked hard too, Kyuhyun“.
With these words, all the tears Kyuhyun had been holding back came rushing out, and all the wounds from Leeteuk’s cold scoldings in the past were washed away. He added that after this experience, he felt like he had finally been accepted as a member of Super Junior.
Leeteuk responded to these stories by saying, “It’s because we have a strong foundation of faith and trust in each other that we are able to share stories like these. I think that’s how comfortable we feel around each other now“, impressing viewers with his wise words.

Nine Muses’ Minha and HyunA look like twins?
Thanks to their sweet resemblance, Nine Muses‘ Minha and HyunA have been often mistaken for each other online, with some even questioning whether they’re twins. At the beginning of their debut, they even had the same hair styles, adding to the confusion for new fans trying to tell the members apart.
With a laugh, Minha said, “Sometimes people post pictures with the wrong name. We do hear about our resemblance a lot, but do we really look alike?”
Representatives of Star Empire said, “Minha, HyunA, and Hyemi – the maknae line – have such similar images so we tried to give them individual styles for their ‘Figaro‘ comeback. Minha cut her bangs to go for a more youthful, cute look, while HyunA kept her long, straight hair. Hyemi also cut her hair short about two weeks before their comeback.”
They continued, “The vocal line also all have long, straight hair, so they needed to stand out.”

He’s a senior in so many ways to Hyungshik and he always gave him so much support and advice. Hyungshik really looks up to him as a rock to depend on.”
They continued, “On days where they don’t have stages, they’ll work out their schedule so that they can rehearse together until the early morning. Hyungshik really wanted this stage together with Ryeowook so we’re sure that it’s a meaningful event for him. We hope that it also becomes a great present for the fans as well.”

Dal Shabet talks about their busy schedules and anti-fans
Since making their debut on January 4th earlier this year, the ladies of Dal Shabet have been running without rest. But it’s finally resulted in a payoff, as it seems their constant appearances on TV have managed to turn their antis into fans.
Sports World got to go and spend a day with the girls on the busiest day of their week to find out just how busy these girls really are.
They explained, “Sometimes we’ll have five schedules lined up at most, and at the least, two, in one day. Are we tired? No, we’re glad. We’re always thankful that we can be busy. Aside from music programs and such, we also go on radio programs and events in other districts. Fortunately, on days like today where we only have a broadcast instead of an event, we can sleep in about an hour or two more because we don’t have to go to the salon. Still, the members sleep in the car as much as they can.”
The girls would normally head to the hair salon at 7 AM, but because they can just get their hair and make-up done in their waiting room at the music show, the girls can skip it today. Their schedules end at 11 PM, but their day doesn’t end there; these disciplined girls then take out their iPads or cameras and monitor their performances to catch any mistakes that need fixing.
After rehearsing in their training room, they reach their dorm at 2 AM and fall asleep by 3:30 AM. After sleeping for two to three hours, the cycle repeats itself since they must wake at 6 AM to get to the salon on time.
The girls said, “We have no choice but to always take vitamins and other health products. We make sure to eat ’samgyetang’ during the hottest days of the summer, and our fans also give us health foods.”
Speaking on their anti fans, Dal Shabet said, “In the beginning of our debut, we had about 10,000, but now it’s gone down to about 3,000. They’ve realized who we really are and thankfully like us now.”
The girls recently made their return with “Bling Bling“, their third release this year. Riding on the retro wave, the girls added their own twist with a ‘new Disco’ sound.
“We’ve been running without rest since January. Sometimes we’ll have extra time once a month, but we use it to order food in our dorm and watch movies. We don’t want to rest yet, but we do miss our parents. Still, we’re all working to collect our own color.”
Although they’re only eight months into their career, their mindset is as strong as any veteran. Right after getting off ‘Music Bank‘, the girls eat dinner and go straight back into rehearsals.
“We’ve only been sleeping for two hours a night since two weeks ago. After starting our broadcast promotions, we’ve been able to sleep an hour or two more. When we’re not satisfied with our performance or our voice cracks during camera rehearsals, our feelings drop really fast. We still try to smile for the fans that come.”
